Seven months after the birth of his son Wyatt Morgan, out CNN news anchor Anderson Cooper says he loves being a dad and wonders, "what was I doing before?"

"I don't think I would have made the decision" to become a father "if I didn't think I was really ready," Cooper told radio host Bruce Bozzi on Dec. 18 while chatting on the SiriusXM radio show "Quarantined with Bruce."

In a sound clip from the show that was posted to YouTube, Anderson goes on to add: "I just feel like this is absolutely this is what I should be doing, and I wish I had done it sooner.

"It's extraordinary to me," Cooper added. "I've been able to spend... all my time with him, really, during this pandemic."

Saying he had never been one for early mornings, Cooper noted that since becoming a father "I now, like, bolt out of bed a seven in the morning without an alarm clock, or six-thirty, and I want to be there when he wakes up at 8:45... I just love every aspect of it. It's just really the greatest thing ever," the star anchor went on to say.

British newspaper the Daily Mail picked up the story, reporting on Cooper's comments to Bozzi and recalling other recent comments the star news anchor has made about fatherhood and the changes it has brought to his life. For one thing, Cooper said in an interview that that he now spends some time meditating each morning rather than focusing on social media.

Cooper also disclosed that being a father had brought him more of a sense of purpose, saying, "I've often in my life felt like I was waiting for my actual life to begin," which, he added, was "ridiculous because I'm 53 years old". However, Cooper added. "Because I'm focused on him, it gives an order to everything."

Baby Wyatt, who was born via surrogate, has a village involved in his raising. As previously reported at EDGE, Cooper's former partner Benjamin Maisani is co-parenting Wyatt. Cooper's pal Andy Cohen brings his own young child around Cooper's place for play dates, and the two kids even share a nanny.
