The singer/songwriter has also long maintained a career as an actor, making his debut in theaters and 2006's Alpha Dog. Since, he's had supporting roles in the likes of "The Social Network" and "Inside Llewyn Davis", and starring turns as Branch in the "Trolls" franchise and over ten other films.

According to an article from Variety, the film tells the story of "Eddie Palmer, an athlete who becomes addicted to painkillers and who gets caught robbing a home. After a stint in prison, the man returns to his hometown to find his grandmother caring for a neighbor's child. But the child does not fit into the rigid behavioral expectations of his rural home."

Ryder Allen, in his cinematic debut, stars as Sam, the young neighbor Eddie takes under his wing. With dreams of becoming a dancer and other interests that don't mesh with other boys in this rural environment, Sam's social outsider status helps him form an unlikely friendship with Eddie.

Audiences will be able to view "Palmer" on January 29, 2021 via Apple TV Plus.
