KJ Apa Makes Nude Scene Debut in Pandemic Thriller 'Songbird'

READ TIME: 2 MIN.

The Michael Bay-produced sci-fi thriller "Songbird" is one of the few films to deal directly with the ramifications of the COVID-19 pandemic. Directed by Adam Mason, the film imagines life in 2024 as the COVID virus has mutated into a deadlier strain, COVID-23. American citizens need to take their temperatures via an app, those testing positive are forced into camps, called "Q Camps," where they are either left to die or to recover on their own.

The film features "Riverdale"-star KJ Apa as a courier who survived the virus, which has made him immune. But when a young woman he has formed a relationship is exposed to the virus, he sets out to find her an "immunity bracelet," which will keep her from being picked up by authorities.

The film was the first film to be made in LA during the pandemic, but that looks to be its only claim to fame. On Rotten Tomatoes, it has a paltry 11% approval rating. "A Cloverfield-style B-movie in which human contact is the real monster, 'Songbird' (on VOD on Dec. 11) has been designed solely to prey upon our current fears about the pandemic nightmare, delivering cliched characters, formal flash, and a mundane race-against-time narrative that wouldn't warrant the least bit of attention if not for its contextual timeliness," writes Nick Schager in the Daily Beast. He describes Apa's character in the film as "Sweaty, scruffy, floppy-haired, and often shirtless, Nico is a fun-loving rebel who plays basketball on desolate freeways."

Perhaps the poor reception has kept the film under the radar, but fans of Apa were teased with the actor's first nude scene, reports the NSFW website The Sword. 12-minutes into the film, Apa takes an outdoor shower, where he shows off his ripped body.

The NSFW-website Mr.Man put together clips of Apa from "Songbird". Note: to watch the clip requires membership.

"Songbird" is streaming on the following services: Amazon Prime Video, iTunes, Vudu, FandangoNow, and Google Play.
