Marcus D'Amico, 'Mouse' in 'Tales of the City,' Has Died

Marcus D'Amico, one of the stars of the original "Tales of the City," has died, Variety reports.

According to his sister, Melissa D'Amico, her brother died of pneumonia on Dec. 16 at his English home in Oxfordshire. The openly gay actor was 55 years old.

D'Amico is most prominently known for his role as Michael "Mouse" Tolliver in the original 1993 series of Armisted Maupin's groundbreaking "Tales of the City." He starred alongside luminaries such as Laura Linney, who played Mouse's best friend Mary Ann Singleton, and Olympia Dukakis, who made the character of Anna Madrigal an icon.

A few years earlier, in 1987, he played Hand Job in Stanley Kubric's "Full Metal Jacket." D'Amico also played character roles in TNT's "The Alienist" and in British television series such as "The Bill" (2002) and "Family Affairs" (2005), and more.

On stage, D'Amico co-starred in a National Theater production of "Angels in America" in 1992, which earned him an Olivier Award nomination; and in 1994-95, he appeared in a Broadway production of "An Inspector Calls" alongside Rosemary Harris ("The Lion in Winter") and the late Philip Bosco ("Lend Me a Tenor"). D'Amico was nominated for a Drama Desk Award for his role.
