Watch: Star of 'Leave Britney Alone' Video Comes Out as Trans Woman

The star of the viral "leave Britney alone" video Cara Crocker, formally Chris Crocker, came out Wednesday as a trans woman in an Instagram post.

"I am transitioning and I have no more apologies to make for who I am," she said. "This will be a lonely process in terms of emotional support from others, but I will be happy knowing I am doing this for myself and what I've needed for my gender dysphoria.

"At my transition progresses, I will not be answering to Chris. It's Cara," she added.

Crocker came to fame 14 years ago with a viral video in which she emotionally pleaded that people should "leave Britney alone," referring to pop star Britney Spears and the way she was being treated by the media and paparazzi at the time.

Crocker said she began hormone therapy Wednesday.

"This will be a lonely process in terms of emotional support from others, but I will be happy knowing I am doing this for myself and what I've needed for my gender dysphoria," she wrote in her post.

Not long after making the post, "Cara returned to Instagram to share a video of herself tossing her long blonde hair and posing for the camera while wearing a red dress," wrote the Daily Mail.

"The transition has been a long time coming for Cara, who has struggled with gender dysmorphia, transphobic comments, and fears for her safety," added the DM.

She added in the post that "Crocker was never and isn't my actual last name to begin with, just a stage name I had to pick when I was being sent death threats online as a teenager."

She concluded: "I'm not living out of fear or anyone else's terms any longer."

The DM added that "Cara added that she was also earning a living as an adult entertainer and was making primarily gay content in her videos that were shared on sites such as OnlyFans. She said that at the time she was presenting 'aesthetically male' until she felt safe and financially sound enough to transition, noting: 'I do feel like a woman on the inside.'"
