Watch: Olly Alexander, Kylie Minogue Duet...and Dress Up as Each Other
Kilian Melloy READ TIME: 3 MIN.
In a "spectacular" music video, "Years and Years" frontman Olly Alexander and Kylie Minogue duet, dance, and dress up as each other, Pink News reports.
"The high-concept piece of camp starts off with Kylie Minogue dancing in a spotlight in a dark room while wearing a leopard print jacket," the site said. Alexander, clad in a similar jacket, joins the pop superstar before they both shed the jackets to reveal matching slinky black outfits.
As the two sing and dance, the "spectacular music video is interspersed with shots of Kylie dressed as Olly – complete with a red-haired wig – and Alexander donning a blonde wig to capture Kylie's iconic look," the article details.
In a coup de grace, the video ends with the backup dancers all having taken on the faces of the two stars by donning masks in their likenesses.
The new single, co-written by Years and Years, is titled "A Second to Midnight," and is the lead single for Minogue's upcoming release, "Minogue's Disco: Guest List Edition."
"The two-disc CD comprises 2020's original 16-track 'Disco' deluxe edition along with a second 10-song disc featuring new songs and remixes," Rolling Stone said.
Alexander took to social media to promote the "A Second to Midnight" video, singing Minogue's praises and calling her a "true icon," Pink News relayed.
"Thank you Kylie for this amazing experience, working together was so fun and I'll never get over being on set with you, I got chills just being there as you did your thing!" Alexander posted to Instagram.
The video comes on the heels of Alexander's new "Years and Years" single, "Crave," in which the "It's A Sin" star reunited with several castmates from the hugely popular miniseries.
As previously reported at EDGE, the video for "Crave" takes place in a dreamlike forest setting and a drapery-lined sex dungeon. A shirtless Alexander frolics with mythical creatures and is tempted to bite into a peach by an Evil Enchantress played by Omari Douglas, who played Roscoe in "It's a Sin."
Nathaniel Curtis, who played Ash in the Russell T. Davies-scripted miniseries, appears later in the video as Prince Medusa, seemingly bringing Alexander back to life with magic and a snake, while David Carlyle, who played Gregory in the miniseries, appears as The Ruby Queen.
"A Second to Midnight" is not the first time the openly gay recording artist has collaborated with Minogue. Rolling Stone recalled that last May, "the duo teamed up for a remix of Years and Years' 'Starstruck.'"
