Watch: Voice Actor Pauly Shore Joins in on the 'Yassification of Pinocchio'
READ TIME: 2 MIN.
Overnight comedian Pauly Shore became a LGBTQ meme when a clip from the upcoming animated film "Pinocchio: The True Story" (in which he voices the titular character) went viral. In the trailer from the Lionsgate film, due out on DVD and VOD March 22, Shore is heard at the moment his character comes to life in a voice Rolling Stone writes sounds "like a cross between a Nineties Valley skater kid and Lola Skumpy from'Big Mouth.' "
RS continues: "The voice was a far cry from the high-pitched, childlike sound ofDisney's original 1940 Pinocchio – and a huge reason the trailer almost instantly went viral. LGBTQ celebrities picked up on the character's seemingly effeminate undertone and ran with it."
Animator Mat Bruent tweeted: "The moment I first heard Pinocchio's voice, it was just...magical."
The meme was taken from the moment in the trailer after Pinocchio comes to life. "I don't believe my eyes!" says an astonished Geppetto. The animated puppet jumps on a horse. "Father, when can I leave to be on myowwwwn?" young Pinocchio drawls. "I've got the wholeworldto see!"
"Young Pinocchio runs away from his genius creator Jepetto accompanied by the horse Tibalt to see the world and joins the traveling circus run by hustler Modjafocco," reads the description of the Russian-made film on IMDb.
