Niecy Nash and Jessica Betts are out and proudly in love and letting the world know on the latest issue of Essence magazine, reported People.

The pair – who have been married for nearly two years – made "herstory" as the first same-sex couple to cover the Black lifestyle magazine, and Nash could not contain her excitement.

"Making H E R S T O R Y ????????????" Nash wrote on Instagram in celebration of the feat. "Thank you @essence for choosing The Betts as your FIRST same sex couple to cover you [sic] magazine! #BettsOfWorlds #MakingHistory #Herstory #BlackHistoryMonth"

Betts, 42, also shared the cover on Instagram, writing: "H E R S T O R Y ???? Thank you @essence for allowing L??ve to win! First #SameSex couple to Ever grace the Cover ????????????"

On another photo of the newlyweds topless, Nash added: "Simply The Betts ???? L o v e > U N C O V E R E D"

The images from their photo shoot were so iconic that they launched a social media challenge for lesbian couples across the internet in the process. Under #TheBettsLoveChallenge hashtag, users have been sharing their own tender moments with their partners and making them iconic by putting them on an Essence cover.

"The least of my attraction is gender," said Nash about her attraction to Betts in her Essence interview. "What I was and am still attracted to is Jessica's soul. She was the most beautiful soul I had ever met in my life. Now that I've experienced it, I can't imagine going through life without it."

The pictures speak 1,000 words.

The Essence issue featuring Nash and Betts hits stands March 1.
