"Bridgerton" star Jonathan Bailey had a big secret before finding fame as the sharp-tongued ladies man Anthony in the Netflix series and now he is coming clean.

In an interview with GQ Hype, Bailey says that he hid his sexuality after being told that he would struggle to win roles as an openly gay actor.

"There's two things we don't want to know: If you're an alcoholic or if you're gay,"' Bailey said he was told. As a result, he hid with hopes to advance his career.

Then he reportedly reached a breaking point.

"I reached a point where I thought, 'F**k this.' I'd much prefer to hold my boyfriend's hand in public or be able to put my own face picture on Tinder and not be so concerned about that, than getting a part," Bailey said.

After coming out in 2018, Bailey landed "Bridgerton" two years later, and the rest has been a very entertaining history. He has won acclaim for the portrayal of his character in the Netflix series and cemented his place as a sex symbol in the process.

"You put your life experiences into [the work]," Bailey said. 'What's most interesting is not necessarily having to talk about what that is, and keeping a sense of privacy."

Indeed.
