2022 Rewind: Watch: Singer-Songwriter Charlie Puth Explains his Horny TikTok
READ TIME: 3 MIN.
EDGE is looking back at 2022 and we're resharing some of our favorite stories of the year.
Is Charlie Puth really as horny as his TikTok makes him out to be? The 30-year-old singer-songwriter, who is straight, says yes: "I'm really horny. I think to be a creative, you have to be..."
Puth opened up in an interview with Bustle, which noted that Puth's TikTok account is "full of flagrant displays of thirstiness. There's ample shirtless material, dirty jokes, and eyes-emoji commentary on his own music – 'Cheating On You,' apparently, includes the sound of his own moaning."
The article goes on to recall how Sarah Schauer made a joke of it in a tweet last summer: "Charlie Puth is so incredibly horny on TikTok, if someone doesn't fuck him soon I fear the worst."
When the Bustle correspondent read Puth that tweet, the musician, laughing, replied: "I think I actually had sex that night when I saw that."
But it's not the young man's interest in sex that's the charming peculiarity about Puth; Bustle noted that it's his "almost contagious lack of shame" that allows him to, say, explain why he can't listen to music while having sex ("I'll start to see the music notes in my head and I will not be able to get hard") or relate the occasion of his first time having sex ("This girl came up to me and was like, 'Can you sign my chest?' I was like, I feel like a rock star... She was lovely, but it makes me sad sometimes because I wish the older version of me was like, 'Hey, you might want to just make this like a little more memorable'"), or even disclose the fact that "The first song I ever jerked off to was fucking 'This Love' by Maroon 5."
"His TikTok bits also invite plenty of good-natured mockery, which Puth doesn't mind," Bustle said. As the artist told the outlet, "What works really well for The Weeknd, only works for him and like two other artists. Me, I need to really show my personality off."
And his heartbreak, too. Entertainment Weekly recalled how Puth posted a TikTok last March that explained how the single "That's Hilarious," from his forthcoming third album, "Charlie," was based on true emotional pain following a breakup; the story behind the song still brings him to tears. Indeed, in the TikTok clip where he discusses the song, Puth frequently needed to wipe his streaming eyes.

Bustle related how "you can hear the hurt in his voice," and noted that the song is "purportedly about Puth's rumored ex, fellow musician Charlotte Lawrence, though he never identifies her."
Perhaps betraying the secret to his musical creativity, Puth also told Bustle that, "I watch my thoughts" – by which he means, "There's nothing better to me than putting my phone down, just closing my eyes and just seeing where my mind takes me."
His example? No surprise: It involves getting busy with a hot partner. Only, because he's inventing – or maybe reinterpreting – a situation, Puth described how he is able to edit the content so that it's more to his liking, saying, "maybe my muscles were five times bigger or maybe I made the first move, or maybe I was more confident."
