Ultra-Right Troll Attacks Pride Flag, Told to Walk by Store Manager
READ TIME: 2 MIN.
Ultra right activist Ethan Schmidt-Crockett is making his name attacking retailers showing Pride flags, but he got a comeuppance at a recent PetSmart store in Phoenix, Arizona.
He made news in late May when he promised "hunting expeditions" of LGBTQ+ individuals in Target stores during Pride season, EDGE reported.
This weekend The Insider reports that Schmidt-Crockett posted a video of himself confronting employees at a Phoenix PetSmart store demanding that they take a Pride flag down.
The video was posted by PatriotTakes, a social media site dedicated to right-wing extremism and other threats to democracy.
In the two minute clip that has been seen by more than two-million, Schmidt-Crockett asked a cashier to take down the flag because it "offended" him "greatly." The woman immediately called for assistance, which brought a manager to her register.
He described the flag as "satanic" and that it represented "pedophilia and child sexualization." By displaying the flag, PetSmart was supporting this behavior. He added that he was "very offended and would like it to be taken down." He also described it as "the rainbow of Satan... I'm very offended, and I would like it to be taken down," Schmidt continued. "Respect your customers and please take it down for me."
But the manager wasn't having any of Schmidt-Crockett, who asked him to leave, adding "we are supportive of LGBTQ+ people here."
Another, older manager stepped was called from the back by the cashier who immediately told Schmidt-Crockett to stop filming and leave the store, firmly telling him he was going to call the police.
"We're going to have the pride flag up. We have it all over the store," the employee said, before correcting Schmidt-Crockett that he was in PetSmart, not Petco."
This isn't the first time Schmidt has promised to target LGBTQ people. In a report from Mel Magazine, "Last month, Schmidt (orSchmidt-Crockett) began bragging that he was out to find, identify and 'expose' people who are spreading 'gay propaganda.' " The 24-year-old creator of the "ANTIMASKERSCLUB" on social media has been especially active in Arizona, destroyingPride signage, stompingon clothing with positive LGBTQ messaging andtargetingpeople inLGBTQ-friendlyplaces of worship. He records all of it with his camera, hoping to generate anger and action among his small fanbase.
The Insider added: "He previously filmed himselfsaying he lovesharassing cancer patients because they're weak and vulnerable, and people wearing masks."
