EDGE is reaching into its archive and sharing some of our favorite stories from the past.

Film festival hit "In From the Side," about two players on a gay English rugby team becoming involved in an affair, is coming to theaters. A new trailer for the film's UK release has dropped.

"Mark (Alexander Lincoln), a new and inexperienced rugby club member, finds himself drawn to Warren (Alexander King), a seasoned first team player," the film's synopsis says.

"When a series of happenstances at an away fixture lead to a drunken encounter, Mark and Warren unwittingly embark on a romantic affair they struggle to hide from their partners and teammates.

"As the secret begins to unravel, team spirit, loyalties and camaraderie are tested in writer-director Matt Carter's startlingly sensitive story about forbidden love and finding your tribe."

The trailer lays out the central conflicts, which extend beyond the adulterous nature of the men's attraction. A major story point is how the gay team has had to struggle for years to gain respectability and not simply be "a novelty act," as one character puts it; another character explains how meaningful the social connections of the team are, saying that his teammates are his family. The affair threatens all of that.

EDGE film reviewer Frank J. Avella gave the film props when covering selections at this year's Frameline Film Festival in San Francisco. In his feature debut, Avella wrote, Carter "manages to captivate" the audience "from the homoerotic matches to the team member rivalries," as well as the "sizzling" love scenes.

Avella added that "the film soars because of strikingly handsome lead Alexander Lincoln, onscreen for much of the running time, delivering a fully-committed turn."

"In From the Side" is set to premiere in UK cinemas on Sept. 16. There is no word yet on an American release date.
