Former 'American Idol' Star Sanjaya is back in the limelight after announcing that he is bisexual during a recent visit to the "Adam Sank Show" podcast, reported TODAY.

As a 2007 contestant Malakar infamously made waves on "Idol" because he was so bad, but somehow America fell in love and kept voting him to qualify for the next round.

Now he is opening up more to his fans about what life was like for him during the height of his TV run as a 17-year-old.

"At the time, I did not know, which was why it was so weird for me," Malakar, now 32, said about his bisexuality. In his childhood, "I always got along with theater kids," he said. "I always got along with the gay kids and the girls, so I was like, 'OK, this is like my people. But I don't know. Everyone keeps telling me that I am gay, and I'm like, 7. I don't even have any attraction to anyone, so why are you telling me this?'"

For many years, Malakar says he pushed back against labels.

"I was exploring my life as a child, and then 'American Idol' happened, and everyone was like, 'Oh, he's gay,'" Malakar recalled. "And I was like, 'OK, well now I have to say no,' because at this point they're forcing me to make a decision and define myself."

Behind the scenes, publicists told him to say he was single.

"Be ambiguous," he said, they told him. "No one needs to know anything about anything because you don't want to lose your fans."

Now Malakar, and his fans, know exactly who he is now, and they both couldn't be happier. He is now a pastry chef living in Montana. Check out a snap from his Instagram below.
