Henry Cavill is ready to don his red cape again as Superman in future DC movies. The actor took to Instagram to announce the news after making a cameo in the recently released DC superhero film, "Black Adam," reported The Hollywood Reporter.
Cavill was wearing his characteristic Superman curl as he shared with his followers in the video that he has officially signed on to play the iconic superhero some more.
"I wanted to make it official – I am back as Superman," said Cavill. Accordingly, thanks to the fans' desire to continue seeing him in the blue tights. "Thank you for your support and for your patience."
He also teased that what theatergoers saw in "Black Adam" is a "very small taste" of things to come.
"Though there are no writers or director attached, the intention is for Cavill to star in at least one solo Superman movie, his first since 2013's 'Man of Steel,' " THR reports. "Other movie appearances could potentially follow as DC Films gets an overhaul under new Warners film bosses Michael De Luca and Pamela Abdy."
The journey to get Cavill back into the role of Superman was reportedly no walk in the park. "The Rock" Dwayne Johnson, who stars in "Black Adam," was reportedly denied a cameo from Cavill by studio heads. But he was then given the thumbs up by new studio bosses De Luca and Abdy.
Cavill was first cast in the role of Superman by Zack Snyder in 2010's "Man of Steel." He returned in the role for 2016's "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" and in "Justice League" (2017).
Despite some back and forth over whether he would return as Superman, Cavill has seemingly always been open about a return. In 2021, he told THR: "As I always say, 'The cape is still in the closet.' "
