Openly gay "Years and Years" frontman Olly Alexander says he'll be shedding Savage X Fenty now that the brand is set to feature Johnny Depp on the upcoming fourth edition of its Amazon Prime series, BuzzFeed News reported.
The "It's a Sin" star tweeted that he won't be donning the label's fashions any longer following an announcement about Depp's involvement, NME detailed.
The singer and actor has modeled the line's underwear in the past, reports noted.
Alexander "expressed disappointment" by retweeting "a post about Depp's appearance in the show, adding a frown emoticon" on Nov. 3, the outlet said.
When a fan responded to Alexander's tweet by posting, "But, Savage X Fenty is you, baby....... you wear it so well," Alexander replied with a polite, but firm, statement: "i won't be wearing it anymore," he said.
"Depp won't be modeling the line in the fashion show but is set to make an appearance during the fashion show airing on Prime Video," accoring to Rolling Stone.
"The controversy surrounding Depp stems from the headline-making trial involving the actor and his ex-wife Heard earlier this year," Rolling Stone went on to say. "Depp was awarded $10 million in damages after he sued her for defamation following a 2018 WaPo op-ed where she accused him of domestic violence."
"Rihanna's casting of Depp – a move that likely polarizes a wide swath of her Navy, all of whom are aware of the singer's history of being a victim of domestic abuse – comes at a questionable time as she's finally begun ramping up her comeback following a lengthy hiatus from music: She's already booked to be the Super Bowl 57 halftime show headliner, and last week released 'Lift Me Up,' her first single in six years," Rolling Stone said.
"Despite Depp's win, many public figures have defended Heard," NME pointed out, recalling that Phoebe Bridgers spoke out on the trial in an interview late last month.
"If Amber Heard exhibited any neurotic behavior, it was held against her," Bridgers said. "Then Johnny Depp, out of his mouth, admitted some of the most violent, crazy shit in court, and it's somehow like, people aren't surprised?"
"Savage X Fenty" is due to stream on Prime Video starting Nov. 9.
