There is a reason why they call Jason Momoa "Aquaman" king of the high seas, and a recent photo of him fishing in a traditional Hawaiian malo that made everyone wish they were a fish caught on his line.
But, as it turns out, he was wearing the garment for a very good reason. As reported by TooFab, Momoa appeared on "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" to explain why he was spotted fishing in such a manner.
According to him, he is set to be the "creator, writer, director, producer and actor on this Apple series called 'Chief of War,' " which takes place in the 1789s and 1790s in Hawaii. And he is getting ready for the role by getting a tan and getting a feel for how the "traditional malo" moves.
"I was just getting ready for the role because I like to get into character," Mamoa told host Jimmy Kimmel. "And so I was tanning my white ass."
In conversation with Kimmel, the topic turned to Mamoa's newest newest role in Netflix's "Slumberland," why he was wearing the outfit from the film, his newest tattoos that run across and down his neck, and rather he is comfortable in that traditional malo.
Mamoa said he would prefer to wear the malo over clothing anytime, and when Kimmel jokingly asked if he was wearing it under his clothing now, Mamoa said: "Of course."
Then Mamoa proceed to strip down and show the garment, and his physique, off in real-time to a rapturous audience.
"Let me tell you, I've never felt more like Danny DeVito than I do right now," Kimmel said as Momoa got dressed again before talking about his work on the film and his involvement with "Be the Match," a charity that helps connect donors with those in need of bone marrow transplants.
"I'm really glad you have your clothes on while you're talking about this," Kimmel said.
"Me too!" Momoa replied.
"'Cause you don't want to swap the wrong cheek, you know what I'm saying?"
Netflix's "Slumberland" is available to stream Nov. 18. But you can watch the show he put on for Jimmy Kimmel below.
