Brendan Fraser is standing his ground and standing up for his peace of mind, despite his resurgence and comeback into the movie business.

As reported by People, Fraser is on the new cover of GQ magazine. In the profile, Fraser shares that he will not be attending the Golden Globe Awards this year, regardless of the praise and award buzz he has received from his role in the film, "The Whale," where he plays a 600 pound gay man attempting to reconnect with his teenage daughter.

"I have more history with the Hollywood Foreign Press Association than I have respect for the Hollywood Foreign Press Association," said Fraser, 53, about the small group that votes for the Golden Globe awards. "It's because of the history that I have with them. And my mother didn't raise a hypocrite. You can call me a lot of things, but not that."

Fraser has claimed that former HFPA President Philip Berk sexually assaulted him in the summer of 2003, while at a luncheon at the Beverly Hills Hotel. Berk denies the incident, but Fraser believes he was blacklisted in Hollywood due to his reaction to the incident.

Fraser described the incident in graphic detail in the pages of GQ in 2018: "His (Berk) left hand reaches around, grabs my ass cheek, and one of his fingers touches me in the taint. And he starts moving it around."

The incident left Fraser scarred and overcome with panic and fear. "I felt ill," he said, and he has no plans to put himself back in that headspace.

The Golden Globes will return to NBC in 2023 after the network declined to air the awards this year because of ongoing controversies.
