R&B singer Summer Walker took to Instagram to clarify – in no uncertain terms – her reasons for an earlier post detailing a job for a "male assistant" who would preferably "white or gay," music news outlet Vibe reports.
When it came to preferring a gay assistant, Walker, who is expecting her second child, was straightforward: "I don't want nobody hitting on me," the 26-year-old recording artist declared.
In the post announcing the job, Walker specified that she was looking for a "male assistant" who was "age 25 & older," had his own car, was able to "build stuff," and "doesn't give af about who I am or my music," among other things. She quoted $2,000 per month as the job's rate of pay.
"After catching flak from fans who felt her job listing was discriminatory to Black people, the heavily pregnant singer took to her Instagram Stories on Monday (December 5) to share several videos addressing the criticism, starting with the salary," HipHopDX reported.
" 'Oh, $2K ain't enough, $2K ain't enough,' " Walker mocked her critics. "How do you know if it's not enough? I could have told somebody to come over here once a week and smell my asshole and leave. How do you know it's not enough? Do you know the job description? Do you know the hours?"
Walker's post went on to note: "I am on maternity leave, I'm not working. We have no shows, we have no club appearances, we have nowhere to go and nothing to do. I told somebody to come over here once a week to come take my fucking trash out, shit like that. Put some gas in my car, shit I don't feel like doing.
"But that is not y'all business, I don't have to explain that to you," the post went on to explain.
But Walker hadn't finished.
"And then to be talking about, 'Why a white man and why a gay man?' " her post continued. "I've always hired Black people. Everybody that works for me is Black. If I wanna hire a white person, y'all sound like y'all discriminating, what's the problem?"
"In the end, the soulful songstress revealed that she ended up hiring a Black man and raised the salary to $2,500 per month," Vibe detailed.
"How about we mind our business?" Walker clapped. "I'm using this platform how I'm supposed to use it – for business. I ended up hiring a Black man and paying more than $2K, but still, the fact that y'all are really in my DMs harassing me about nothing that you know nothing about."
