Gael García Bernal is ready for the ring, and he looks fabulous! The first images were just released of Bernal in costume, and leopard print, for his role as professional wrestler in the film "Cassandro," and we are already itching to see this movie.

As reported by IndieWire, Bernal stars as legendary gay Mexican luchador Saúl Armendáriz.

"As a young man with dreams of competing at the highest levels in wrestling, he soon moved to Mexico and began training in Ciudad Juarez," IndieWire reports. "But while some thought his homosexuality would be a hindrance in such a machismo-driven industry, he soon rose to the top of the Mexican wrestling world by embracing a flamboyantly gay persona known as 'Cassandro.' "

Despite his odds, Armendáriz proved to be a huge hit in the wrestling biz, and went on to cement his legacy in the ring.

Written and directed by Roger Ross Williams, the film also stars Roberta Colindrez, Perla De La Rosa, Joaquín Cosío, and Raúl Castillo.

"Cassandro" is only the latest professional wrestling film that will be heading to screens soon. Zac Efron and Jeremy Allen White are both bulking up to portray the legendary Von Erichs in the A24 film "The Iron Claw." But American entertainment wrestlers are not the only ones getting the cinematic treatment next year.

Is wrestling having a resurgence in pop culture? "Cassandro" hits Prime Video in 2023.
