"Heartstopper" star Kit Connor took one of the five Emmys the show won for its first season on Netflix. Connor scored his statuette for his leading role. Olivia Colman also took an acting prize for the series. Co-star Joe Locke was nominated, but did not win.

Variety reported on the show's triumphs at the inaugural Children's & Family Emmy Awards, which included a win for "young teen series," as well as another statuette for writer Alice Oseman, who created the graphic novels on which the series is based.

"The show won in the following categories – Outstanding Teen Series, Outstanding Writing for Alice Oseman, Outstanding Casting for Daniel Edwards, Outstanding Lead Performance for Kit Connor and Outstanding Guest Performance for Olivia Colman," Radio Times summarized.

Overall, "Netflix was the night's big winner, with 15 Emmy wins total," Variety wrote of the Dec. 11 awards. "Among the key categories: Children's or Family Viewing Series, Young Teen Series, Preschool Series and Animated Series," Variety went on to report.

Connor has stayed mostly silent on social media over the past couple of months, following fan pressure to declare his sexuality and speculations that he was "queerbaiting" by portraying a bisexual character on the enormously popular series without having verified that he is himself a member of the LGBTQ+ community. Connor resurfaced on Twitter briefly on Oct. 31 to make a short announcement that he is bisexual, chiding his detractors in the same post with, "congrats for forcing an 18 year old to out himself."

Connor has also made rare updates on Instagram, including a November Post in which he acknowledged he and Joe Locke being chosen for the cover of the 2022 "Men of the Year" issue. Earlier this month he returned to Instagram to post a photo of himself and Locke making an appearance in Brazil.

Reports noted that Connor celebrated his Emmy win on his Instagram Story, posting: "Well, this is cool. Thank you so much to everyone who watched the show."

Netflix has renewed the series for at least two more seasons. The second season recently completed filming.
