Watch: Andrew Tate Falls Short Trying to Retort to Greta Thunberg's Smackdown
Kilian Melloy READ TIME: 3 MIN.
Former kickboxer and social media influencer Andrew Tate went after Swedish teen environmentalist Greta Thunberg – then flailed, and failed, in his attempt to respond to the 19-year-old's social media smackdown.
The 36-year-old British-American Tate, who lives in Romania, took aim at Thunberg in a tweet addressed to her in which he boasted about his collection of 33 cars and the emissions they spew into the atmosphere.
"Please provide your email address so I can send a complete list of my car collection and their respective enormous emissions," Tate posted.
The teenage environmental activist took her time replying, noted columnist Harriet Williamson of the UK newspaper the Independent, but when she did deign to clap back, it was a masterwork: Short, sweet, and devastating.
"yes, please do enlighten me," Thunberg posted, along with a retweet of Tate's original message. "email me at smalldickenergy @ getalife.com."
Tate tried to retort in kind, but fell far short of matching either Thunberg's brevity or her wit, Williamson reported.
"Tate's initial reply was 'How dare you?!' because men who say that women 'put themselves in a position to be raped' – and cite it being easier to get off on rape charges as 'probably 40 per cent of the reason' to live in an Eastern European country – literally cannot deal with having the size of their member mocked," Williamson recounted.
"Ten hours later, Tate was back with a predictably limp 'I know you are but what am I' response, so beloved of 10-year-old boys the world over," the Independent columnist went on to add. "He wrote: 'Thank you for confirming via your email address that you have a small penis @GretaThunberg. The world was curious. And I do agree you should get a life.'"
"This was accompanied by a video in which he ranted bizarrely about the 'global matrix' and its 'bot farm' making Thunberg's reply go viral," Williamson continued.
In the video, Tate sits in a wood-paneled room, wearing a robe and puffing a huge cigar. "Greta's email address is 'I have small dick energy'. Why would that be her own email? Strange," Tate plods, before turning the subject to Thunberg's gender: "I don't want to assume her gender, it's 50/50, but it is what it is."
Accepting a stack of pizzas – "make sure that those boxes are not recycled," Tate says to someone off camera – Tate claims not to be angry with Thunberg, "because she doesn't realize she's been programmed. She doesn't realize she's a slave of the Matrix. She thinks she's doing good." Despite that, he goes on to posit that Thunberg is "hate-filled, bitter, sitting somewhere without the heating on, shivering," and paying attention to "my tweets, which is going to make my Twitter account far more fun into eternity."
Unless, of course, the young activist, who is a published author, has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize for four years running, been named TIME's Person of the Year, and awarded dozens of accolades and honors, (including an honorary doctorate) has better things to do.
Twitter users showered Thunberg's riposte with more than a million likes in just a few hours' time, PopCrave noted.
Twitter users also found Tate's attempt to clap back laughable at best.
