It Hurt Down There. Prince Harry and the Case of Genital Frostbite
READ TIME: 3 MIN.
By far the oddest revelation by Prince Harry in his book "Spare" is the case of genital frostbite.
First reported by Page Six, one of the most startling revelations of the memoir being published today was "his "'todger' was frostbitten following a March 2011 expedition to the North Pole."
When standing beside William at his older brother's wedding, Harry writes that he was still recovering from the 200-mile Arctic charity walk. "Makes sense considering he spent his time swimming through frozen bodies of water," reports Cosmopolitan.
Vanity Fair explains the context of the event: "Harry had been on a charity expedition to the North Pole, where he'd walked 200 miles across arctic landscape alongside fellow soldiers who'd served in Afghanistan. The thing about walking 200 miles across arctic landscape is that your extremities will possibly suffer, and his did. Harry's ears, cheeks, and penis got frostbitten. His circumcised penis, that is. (Before we go on, it should be clarified that "Willy" is what he calls his brother and "todger" is the polite term he uses to refer to his penis.)"
In "Spare," he admitted he wasn't spared being cut as a child. "There were countless stories in books, and papers (even The New York Times) about Willy and me not being circumcised," he reportedly writes in the memoir. "Mummy had forbidden it, they all said, and while it's absolutely true that the chance of getting penile frostbite is much greater if you're not circumcised, all the stories were false. I was snipped as a baby."
Being uncircumscribed offers better protection against frostbite. For more on the penis and frostbite, follow this link.
His frostbitten privates caused him great discomfort during the wedding ceremony of brother William and Kate Middleton.
"Pa was very interested and sympathetic about the discomfort of my frost nipped ears and cheeks," Harry wrote about his father Charles' response to his injuries. However, Harry didn't disclose his painful penis, which he sensibly saved for the book.
"While the ears and cheeks were already healing, the todger wasn't," Harry recalls. "It was becoming more of an issue by the day." Post-wedding, he sought medical relief and was told he didn't need any – his penis just took longer to heal.
Harry also revealed taking measures to protect himself from genital frostbite moving forward. In the extract from his book, "Harry told how he was keen to avoid a repeat injury for his trek across Antarctica (which he took in 2013) and ensured he had taken extra precautions such as packing better underwear and extra padding," writes the Daily Mail.
But it was friend who stepped forward to save the peen from the cold.
"Better yet, one very close mate hired a seamstress to make me a bespoke c**k cushion,' Harry wrote. "Square, supportive, it was sewn from pieces of the softest fleece and... Enough said."
The Daily Mail adds that Harry didn't explain how this close friend acquired the necessary measurements to commission this "bespoke" item.
Nor did he reveal if he actually wore the item during the arduous trip across the South Pole.
The trip saw the Duke of Sussex, as part of team of seven, endure freezing temperatures of -45C (-49F) for about two weeks to reach the geographic South Pole in a bid to raise funds for military charities supporting veterans.
