Openly gay actor Jonathan Bailey of "Bridgerton" fame has signed on to play the lover of fellow out hottie Matt Bomer in the upcoming historical drama "Fellow Travelers," according to Variety.
As previously reported, Bomer is executive producing the eight-episode limited series as well as starring. The series is about two civil servants in love during the anti-gay government purge of the "Lavender Scare."
"In the show, the handsome and charismatic Hawkins Fuller (Bomer) avoids emotional entanglements – until he meets Tim Laughlin (Bailey), a young man brimming with idealism and religious faith," the entertainment outlet details of the series, which is slated to air on Showtime.
"They begin a romance just as Joseph McCarthy and Roy Cohn declare war on 'subversives and sexual deviants,' initiating one of the darkest periods in 20th-century American history," Variety added.
The story follows the pair over the course of four decades as a half-century of American history unfolds in the background.
The two leading men showed their enthusiasm on Instagram, the Star-Observer reported, where Bomer posted a link to an article about the casting news and wrote, "I've been holding this one close to the vest for a minute."
Added the "Magic Mike" star: "I could not be more excited to be sharing the experience of Fellow Travelers with an actor I respect and admire more than I can say, @jbayleaf."
Bailey posted a reply under his handle, jbayleaf: "Here we GO," Bailey wrote, punctuating his excitement with a heart emoji.
Also starring is Allison Williams, who plays "Lucy Smith, the daughter of a senator who has known Hawkins since they were teenagers," the publication added.
The series has top-notch talent behind the camera, as well; The Hollywood Reporter pointed out that "Ron Nyswaner ('Philadelphia,' 'Homeland') adapted the novel and executive produces with Bomer and Robbie Rogers ('All American')," while "Daniel Minahan ('Halston,' 'American Crime Story') will exec produce and direct the first two episodes."
