Madonna's 'Crisis of Confidence' as She Splits with Younger BF

The Material Girl is having a "crisis of confidence" as she splits up with younger boyfriend Andrew Darnell after five months, and in the wake of "misogynistic" and "ageist" social media backlash after her Grammys appearance.
Page Six reported that according to a source, Madonna, 64, and Darnell, 23, "have called time on their relationship and he has found romance with someone closer to his own age..."
Saying that Madge "had a lot of fun with Andrew but it was never love or anything like that," the source noted that the relationship "was only a very casual thing so she's not broken-hearted. It's just that it has come at a bad time."
"She's having a bit of a crisis of confidence," the source went on to add, "and this doesn't help."
As UK newspaper the Daily Mail recounted, "Her self-esteem is said to have been rattled by haters that took to social media to say she looked unrecognizable at the 2023 Grammy Awards."
As previously reported, Madonna's new look at the Grammys sparked comment and speculation about what sort of poor plastic surgery she might have had done, and social media users piled on with endless memes mocking the global superstar.
Even plastic surgeons lent their professional opinions as to what procedures she might have gone in for, remarking on the smoothness of her face and changes to her hairline and the shape of her nose.
"In response to the backlash, the mother-of-six explained that her face was distorted during the show and looked puffier than it actually was due to a 'long lens camera,'" the Mail recalled.
But Madonna also called out the culture in an Instagram Stories post in which she lamented, "Once again I am caught in the glare of ageism and misogyny that permeates the world we live in."
It wasn't long before the Queen of Pop made a show of publicly regaining her poise; Page Six noted that "Earlier this week, the singer posted a new photograph of herself on Instagram, cryptically saying: 'Look how cute i am now that swelling from surgery has gone down. Lol'."
But, Page Six added, the source revealed that Madonna's discontent is more than skin-deep. "She said no one cared that she was in the room," the source related, "and it used to be so different for her."
"She's never been out of favor for so long."
The "Like a Prayer" singer's crisis comes amidst news that a planned biopic she was to have directed has been shelved, at least for now. Personal tragedy also struck, with news over the weekend that Madonna's older brother, Anthony, has passed away.
But don't count Madonna out quite yet. To mark the 35th anniversary of her breakout hit "Holiday," the source told Page Six that Madge is "throwing herself into [her upcoming 'Celebration'] tour and is determined that not only will it be brilliant, but it will also thrust her back into the limelight."
The source added that Madonna "wants to remind everyone what a star she is."
