Pedro Pascal's Pride Flag Post Prompts Praise, Excitement
Kilian Melloy READ TIME: 2 MIN.
"The Last of Us" star Pedro Pascal took to Instagram over the weekend, posting Pride and transgender flag photos and declaring, once again, his allyship - and fans swooned.
"The answer my friend is blowin' in the wind," Pascal, who concurrently also stars in another hit series - "The Mandalorian" - captioned a photo of the progress Pride flag showing its full colors in a strong breeze. "#LGBTQIA".
"His post comes amid a wave of anti-trans legislation and drag show bans spreading across the United States," noted UK newspaper the Daily Mail.
"Positive reactions filled Pascal's comments section, with many christening him the ultimate 'daddy' and the 'DILF OF THE CENTURY,'" the article went on to add.
Among the appreciative comments was one from Pascal's openly non-binary "The Last of Us" co-star, Bella Ramsey, whose character on the show was recently revealed to have had a same-sex love interest.
"Love love love," Ramsey posted, along with a string of Pride and transgender flag emojis.
An early episode in the series told the story of a gay couple, played by Murray Bartlett and Nick Offerman, and demonstrated that the HBO post-apocalyptic drama would not shy away from LGBTQ+ themes, especially those that originated in the show's video game source material.
Other appreciative responses to the March 5 post included one person's comment that, "being a trans man, it makes me very happy to know that an actor i admire supports my existence. thank you, pedrito ❤️," while another fan asked, "Who else hasn't had a crush on a celebrity until Pedro Pascal came along? 😍"
Another comment on Pascal's post echoed the question some fans have had for some time, and which the new post only served to tease:
"'ARE YOU GAY????????????????' wondered one fan, writing in Spanish, leading many others to declare that their 'DMs are open,'" the Mail recounted.
It's an understandable question.
"Pascal has never declared his sexuality but is an outspoken supporter of the LGBTQ community, including his trans sister Lux Pascal," noted Your Tango.
"Pascal is also said to have pushed Disney+ to include LGBTQ representation in future seasons of 'The Mandalorian,' on which he plays the title role, following the show's scandal in which star Gina Carano made transphobic comments," Your Tango added.
The article recalled Pascal's role on "Game of Thrones" as a bisexual character, Oberyn Martell, as well as comments he made to the LA Times about heterosexual male fans online declaring themselves to be his stans.
"I think it's all a spectrum, right?" Pascal said. "Straight men can have - do have - crushes on other men."
While some fans may harbor hopes that Pascal is not just as supporter of the LGBTQ+ community but a member of it himself, others proved "assertive in shutting down any allusions to a hidden message in Pascal's post, as well as any negative reactions," Elle imparted.
"Anyone who's mad about this clearly isn't a real Pedro fan because you would have already known he's an ally," Elle cited one fan posting.
