Sarah Michelle Gellar 'Always Felt Supported' by LGBTQ+ Community

"Buffy" star Sarah Michelle Gellar gave a shoutout to her big gay following from behind the scenes of the recent GLAAD Media Awards, telling E! News, "Through everything in my career and my life, I have always felt supported by this community."

"I have felt welcomed, I have felt accepted," Gellar added. "For me to be here and to be able to provide that same gift is just really important to me."

E! News noted that the "Vampire Slayer" icon received a "standing ovation" from the crowd at the March 30 event, in which "The White Lotus" star Jennifer Coolidge was also honored, and "Bros" took the top prize for Outstanding Film (Wide Release).

But, the article said, the continuing popularity of the hit show – which finished its run two decades ago – doesn't mean that "Buffy" is due to return for a few additional seasons like other fan-favorite shows like "Arrested Development," "Will & Grace," and "The X Files" have.

"I do believe that the story was set up for the next version of the slayer, and I'm very supportive of that," Gellar said of the show's ending. "I just don't think it's me."

Moreover, "The inevitable comparisons would be so hard," Gellar told E! News. "I just don't think that we could live up to an expectation that would exist. So, I would rather that live in its own world and then have something new."

One new project for Gellar: The role she has taken in the Paramount+ teen werewolf drama "Wolf Pack," which recently concluded its eight-episode first season. All episodes are available now on the streaming service.

The 34th Annual GLAAD Media Awards is scheduled to stream on Hulu April 12.
