Is a Gay Character On to 'Tears Of The Kingdom'?

Fans expect that a gay character could be on the way to "The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom."

As reported by Kotaku, main character Link has already met an impressive cast of characters on his journey through Hyrule. But noticeably missing is an undoubtedly gay character.

After a diary entry in Kakariko Village reveals one male character has feelings for another, fans expect that the series' first openly gay character could be on the way.

The journal entry was written by Calip, "a researcher and returning character from Breath of the Wild," Kotaku reports. He writes about Tauro, who is described as a "big, beefy hunk of a man," and fellow historian and researcher in his own right.

"While Tauro and I were taking a break, he asked me, 'Hey, Calip, what attracted you to join the Zonai Survey Team?'" writes Calip.

"A little flustered, I answered that I heard its research division was led by a brilliant man by the name of Tauro."

He added, "Because of you, essentially. I meant it sincerely, and in my heart, I longed to continue..."

He ends with, "Of course, no such thing passed my lips."

While some say it simply is not an explicit sign that Calip is attracted to Tauro, others feel the way he writes says a lot without hitting everyone over the head with it.

"In the past, the series has some rocky history with queer themes, as 'Breath of the Wild' features a plot line that does not read well when viewed through a trans lens," Kotaku reports. "The series is also no stranger to queer-coded characters like Bolson, Tingle, and Ghirahim, though those are mostly just vibes rather than anything explicit. Still, this hasn't stopped many players from bringing their own queer readings to the series, especially in the form of trans and genderfluid readings of Link, which Nintendo has even discussed as somewhat intentional."

Could Calip's journal be the missing link to out queer representation in the series?
