2023 Rewind: Meet the Hot Gay Single in the Cast of Max's New Doc Series 'Swiping America'

This piece is part of EDGE's 2023 Rewind series. We're reaching into our archives and sharing some of our favorite stories from the past year.

Max – formerly HBO Max – has dropped a trailer for an eight-part "rom doc" that follows four New Yorkers as they search for connection using dating apps. Among them are two LGBTQ+ cast members: Kris Kelkar, an openly gay hottie, and out lesbian Ashleigh Warren.

Cosmopolitan profiled the quartet of singles, with each one answering a brief set of questions. Kris – whose full first name is Krishnanand – declared that the opportunity to be on the reality show was "a YOLO moment," adding: "I never thought I'd do anything like this, but I'd just been through a rough breakup and funnily enough the guy wanted to be on TV, so I was kind of feeling the cosmic irony of it all."

The series takes the four out of Gotham and through a number of American cities. The favorite pit stop for Kris was Seattle, but the moment he most keenly anticipates the audience seeing when the show premieres next month is when "I wear a wedding dress," the 30-year-old data scientist revealed. "I am so excited for viewers to see that."

Viewers will be excited to see him, too, especially after taking a look at the thirst traps that crowd his Instagram.

Also featured in the Cosmo profile was Ashleigh Warren, whose occupation was listed as "Social Media Strategist for Influencers & Creators."

"In true lesbian fashion, I had just ended a 6-week bicoastal situationship and was pretty frustrated at how difficult it is to find a deep connection anywhere," Ashleigh recalled.

After "meeting with the creative masterminds and executive producers," she added, she "knew I really wanted to be a part of this..."

Listing Santa Fe, New Mexico, as her favorite city from the string of locales the show visits, Ashleigh spoke to her love of travel, declaring, "give me a passport and a destination steeped in culture, and I'm happier than a kid in a candy store."

Also on her list of top experiences are "moments... spent in the company of my loved ones – because, let's face it, nothing beats a good belly laugh with your friends and family, right?"

As for what she's keen for viewers to see on the show, Ashleigh picked "how honest the show is."

"Reality TV often earns a bad rap," the 31-year-old added, "and this show is nothing like the norm."

Also in the cast: Kesun Lee, who is in real estate. The 36-year-old said she was on the show "For adventure! I was ready for love and travel," and, she said, she's eager for audiences to see "how the friendship between the leads bloomed."

"And my outfits, of course," she added.

Reagan Baker, 38, a writer and "hair & beauty expert," rounds out the foursome. When Reagan was "first approached to do this show at the tail end of New York's never-ending lockdown," she related, "nothing sounded more interesting to me than traveling around America and possibly finding myself a cornfed."

Who can't relate?

Citing New Orleans as her favorite stopover, Reagan declared, "The food scene in New Orleans was absolutely to die for, and people play really great live music just randomly in the streets."

Moreover, Reagan discovered the beauty of the city's swamps, with "dragonflies everywhere" that "looked like gorgeous little fairies."

"I also saw a baby alligator and there was a real tornado," Reagan added. "Nothing of that stuff every happens in New York."
