Pop singer Ava Max took to Twitter following an assault during her June 20 concert, when a man jumped on stage and slapped her before being hustled away, UK newspaper the Independent reported. The newspaper said that the attack took place at a Los Angeles venue.
The Daily Star detailed the assault, recounting that "Max had almost finished her set when a trespasser made their way onto the stage and lunged for Ava's face."
Video shared on social media appeared to show the man's hand connecting with Ava's face in a slap. The singer touched her face momentarily as security grabbed the attacker and removed him from that stage.
"Ava bravely finished her routine, gave one final spin and thanked the crowd as though nothing had happened," the Daily Star recounted.
Taking to Twitter on June 21, the 29-year-old singer-songwriter updated fans, posting that the assailant "slapped me so hard that he scratched the inside of my eye."
"He's never coming to a show again 😡😡," Max added, before sending out a "thank you to the fans for being spectacular tonight in LA though!!❤️"
Replying to Max's update, one concertgoer shared that they had seen the incident take place.
"I was there tonight," the audience member posted. "The guy rushed on stage at the end, right when the last song ended. The security guard tackled him and literally threw him down the stairs. Wild! It happened so fast."
The concert attendee went on to add, that following the attack, Max "couldn't even open her eyes but she STILL did M&G," which stands for a "meet and greet" with fans.
Others offered their support and solace.
Some noted that the assault marks the second time in just a few days that a female singer has been physically attacked on stage, following a June 18 incident in New York City when a fan hurled a cell phone at Bebe Rexha, striking her above the eye and sending her to the hospital where she needed stitches.
As previously reported, the suspect in the Bebe Rexha case, Nicolas Malvagna, 27, allegedly told security at the Manhattan venue that he "was trying to see if I could hit her with the phone at the end of the show because it would be funny."
Malvagna has been charged with assault and harassment. Reports on the attack that Ava Max suffered did not identify the suspect or offer details about whether he had been arrested or charged.
