Polly Pocket, a fellow Mattel doll, is set to follow her iconic colleague Barbie to the big screen, with a script by Lena Dunham of "Girls" fame.

UK newspaper the Daily Mail reported that Dunham is slated to direct as well as write the movie. Dunham's track record – from her star-making debut feature, "Tiny Furniture," to last year's critically acclaimed and popular film "Catherine Called Birdy" – is impressive, as are the cinematic achievements of "Barbie" co-writer and director Greta Gerwig, whose previous films include "Nights and Weekends," "Little Women," and "Lady Bird."

"The filmmaker has cast Emily In Paris star Lily Collins as the title character, and Collins will also have a hand in the production as one of its producers," the Mail noted.

"Several of the Barbie movie's positive reviews have praised the way it managed to insert feminist messages despite promoting a classic toy," the news report detailed, "and it's likely that Dunham may have similar aspirations considering her widely publicized thoughts on politics and womanhood."

Polly Pocket and Barbie are only two of the toy company's properties featured in a plan to create "a Mattel cinematic universe," Variety relayed in a story about how CEO Ynon Kreiz has concocted a plan to make Mattel "into an IP-driven machine."

"Properties Mattel intends to one day bring to the big screen include 'American Girl,' 'Magic 8 Ball,' 'UNO,' 'Wishbone,' 'Thomas & Friends,' and 'Masters of the Universe,' among others," People Magazine reported in a writeup of its own.

"The doll, which was designed in the early '80s and first produced at the end of the decade, originally were less than an inch tall and fit inside small dollhouse play sets," the Mail recalled of Polly Pocket, adding that "subsequent iterations of the toy have increased in size, though it is still smaller than a standard Barbie."
