"RuPaul's Drag Race" star Pearl drew condemnation for posting photos of herself as a "character" with dark skin, exaggerated lips, and long press-on nails that some likened to blackface, Entertainment Weekly reported.
Pearl deleted and apologized for the images, writing in her Instagram Stories on August 9: "The character i posted this morning was not meant to resemble any other background other than my own. she's platinum blonde/blue eyes & meant to have 2000's britney-esque tan."
"I certainly didn't mean to hurt anyone and will refrain from using any kind of tan at all when creating characters in the future," Pearl, who was a finalist on Season 7 of "Drag Race," added. "i've removed the post as to not continue to offend people."
Social media users were quick to call out the drag star over the images.
"In addition to accusations of blackface from social media users in the comments section of other photos on her profile, fellow 'Drag Race' alums The Vixen and Silky Nutmeg Ganache also addressed Pearl's photo," EW detailed.
"Drag Race" Season 9 star The Vixen slammed the photo, tweeting, "White people paint their skin the shade of people who have to defend their skin shade and their surprised they have to defend their choice."
Silky Nutmeg Ganache reposted the image and accused Pearl of "mocking RuPaul in her younger years."
Comments left on Pearl's Instagram addressing the controversial image included one person saying, "Girl don't think I didn't screenshot that post," while another took issue with the apology, writing, "Lol saltiest non apology in the world girl take some responsibility having a cry you'll never do a tan character again like damn"
