Watch: 'Red, White & Royal Blue' Star's Dilemma – Peach Fuzz, or No?

"Red, White & Royal Blue" director Matthew López recalled in a new interview the dilemma one of the film's hot leads, Taylor Zakhar Perez. The star apparently wrestled with whether or not to shave his butt before appearing nude in from of the camera.

López "appeared on SiriusXM's 'The Jess Cagle Show,'" People Magazine reported, and regaled listeners with an anecdote about the time "when Perez, 31, approached him to ask whether he should shave body hair from his backside before filming nude scenes for the movie."

More than a month into production, the 46-year-old playwright and first-time movie director was summoned to Perez's trailer, López recounted. Assuming the news might be bad, López approached the impromptu meeting with some trepidation.

"I'm like, 'Uh-oh, uh-oh, oh shit. Oh God,' López recounted. "'What's going on?'.... and Karen looks at Taylor and says, 'Alright, tell him what you told me.'"

At that point, the actor blurted: "I don't know if I should shave or not."

"And I'm like, 'Your face?'" López related. "And he goes, 'No, babe.'"

Catching on, López asked Perez, "Alright, well, what do you want to do about it?"

The star was so nervous about how he'd look onscreen he implored the first-time film director to "just look, okay?" and dropped trou, requesting that López "look at my ass," the article detailed. López pointed out that Hartley was still present, in the role of "chaperone, because I didn't want my career to end before it began."

López reassured the young actor, saying "You're fine, you're fine, you look great!" and telling him to "just bring your hairy butt to set."

Said the director, "Hardly anybody is going to argue that these two young men aren't beautiful, but a body itself, as it is naturally, is a gorgeous thing."

Viewers couldn't agree more with the wisdom of López's advice. But, the director shared, upon returning to the set he couldn't help telling his assistant director, "You can't believe how my day just started."
