Watch: Trailer Released for Queer Thriller 'Saltburn'
READ TIME: 2 MIN.
"Lots of people get lost in Saltburn," advises a butler to Barry Keoghan in the trailer for "Saltburn," the new queer thriller due out in November. In the film, written and directed by Oscar-winner Emerald Fennell ("Promising Young Woman"), Keoghan plays a young college student who gets invited by Felix, an aristocratic classmate played by Jacob Elordi, to spend the summer at his family estate, Saltburn.
"Saltburn"'s official logline calls it "a beautifully wicked tale of privilege and desire." And from the trailer, it appears that Keoghan doesn't quite fit into the eccentric and privileged world of Felix's family. "Lots of people get lost at Saltburn," the manor's butler tells Oliver as he struggles to find his place in Felix's world, despite those around telling him that it's "not for him."
The film, which had its world premiere at the Telluride Film Festival on Thursday, August 31, brings to mind "The Talented Mr. Ripley."
In addition to Keoghan ("Eternals") and Elordi ("Euphoria>), the film features Rosamund Pike, Richard E. Grant, Archie Madekwe, Carey Mulligan, Lolly Adefope, and Reece Shearsmith.
"'Saltburn' will also open the 67th BFI London Film Festival on 4 October," as reported by Variety.
"I'm honored that our film is able to open this year's BFI London Film Festival," said Fennell. "It is a festival that inspired me so much growing up, one that I followed excitedly from my bedroom on the other side of London. It feels extra-special that 'Saltburn,' this very British tale of excess, is able to make its international debut at the wonderful BFI."
"'Promising Young Woman' landed Fennell a best original screenplay Oscar, as well as nods in best director and best picture. Mulligan also earned her second Oscar nomination for her performance as Cassandra in the provocative thriller," Variety noted.
Amazon Studios and MGM will release "Saltburn" in select theaters on Nov. 24 before expanding wide on Dec. 1.
