Love Is Dead: Karine Jean-Pierre Reveals She Has Split with Partner of 10 Years

It seems Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner aren't the only ones who haven't been able to make it work. White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre has revealed in an intimate interview with Vogue that she has separated from her partner of 10 years.

As reported by Vogue in the magazine's September issue, Jean-Pierre shared custody of her nine-year-old daughter Soleil with former partner Suzanne Malveaux.

"I'm a single mom who is co-parenting this amazing kid," Jean-Pierre told Vogue. "Our number-one priority is her privacy and to make sure we create an environment that's nurturing."

Malveaux reportedly had already started the adoption process when she and Jean-Pierre were dating. After the adoption process was complete in May 2014, Jean-Pierre formally adopted Soleil a few years later.

According to Jean-Pierre, having a child was "a thousand percent" not on her to-do list. She explained that avoiding motherhood was "one of the reasons I left to do campaigns,' Jean-Pierre said. "Because it took me away from the responsibilities of home."

But now she has a full personal and professional life, and she said that she sees parenting as motivation to help build a better country.

"Everything that we do, being led by the president, is going to matter, not just today, but tomorrow and for the rest of our lives," said Jean-Pierre. "What we do is certainly going to change the trajectory of her life."
