Openly transgender "Euphoria" star Hunter Schafer is starring in the new "Hunger Games" prequel – but fans already have her pegged in another role: That of the heroine from the video game "The Legend of Zelda."
Variety reports that an announcement on a live-action film adaptation of the fantasy video game had no sooner been made than "fans started dream-casting the title role" – and Shafer was the favorite pick for many.
The 24-year-old actor and activist let it be known she'd be down for the job, telling Variety from the London premiere of "The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes" that it "would be so cool" to inhabit the role.
Added the "Belle" co-star, "I love the game, personally. I played it as a kid and I still play it now. Who knows! That would be pretty cool."
It's not the first time the our trans actor has mentioned her interest in the role; she made similar comments to Entertainment Tonight.
Shigeru Miyamoto, one of the developers for the Nintendo game, posted to X (formerly Twitter) that he had been "asked [Avi Arad] to produce this film with me, and we have now officially started the development of the film with Nintendo itself heavily involved in the production."
Another character developed by Miyamoto hot screens earlier this year with the release of the "Super Mario Brothers" movie.
"Schafer plays Tigris Snow in 'The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes,' which premieres in theaters on Nov. 17," Variety noted.
"'Maze Runner' director Wes Ball is helming the adaptation," the entertainment news magazine added, "with 'Jurassic World' screenwriter Derek Connolly penning the screenplay."
