Republican Congressman Tim Walberg Facing Backlash for Praising Plan to Kill Gay People in Uganda

Republican Congressman Tim Walberg is in hot water for supporting dangerous bigotry overseas.

According to Salon, Walberg went to Uganda and delivered a speech in support of the country's anti-LGBTQ+ bill, nicknamed the "Kill the Gays" law.

"Though the rest of the world is pushing back on you...though there are other major countries that are trying to get into you and ultimately change you, stand firm. Stand firm," Walberg said of Uganda's anti-homosexuality law during Uganda's National Prayer Breakfast.

In response, Uganda President Yoweri Museveni said that Walberg "thinks like us."

In May, Museveni signed the Anti-Homosexuality Act of 2023, which will criminalize homosexuality and make it punishable by death.

As people got wind of Walberg's support of the controversial law, they took to social media to share their disgust.

"Rep. Tim Walberg, co-chair of the U.S. National Prayer Breakfast, went to Uganda to support its Anti-Homosexuality Act, which has a death penalty. His trip was paid for by the sponsors of the Prayer Breakfast. Time to shun the National Prayer Breakfast?" wrote Bill Kristol of Defending Democracy Together, on X, formerly Twitter.

Another X user added, "Tim Walberg would execute 10% of Americans if he could."

X user @MelissaLoGic17 added, "Michigan Rep Tim Walberg is a disgrace! Shame on you!!"

Disgrace, indeed.
