Flower Power Fête: A Vibrant Throwback at the Hippie Holidays Soirée
On December 18th, Eric and I stepped into James and Stephen's annual "Hippie Holidays Soirée" at the iconic Judson Memorial Church, and we were instantly immersed in a night of groovy vibes and unforgettable memories.
This vibrant throwback to the '60s was a celebration of love, peace, and free spirit. As we entered, actors dressed as Hare Krishnas, beating drums and dancing, set the tone for an evening that promised the true essence of the hippie era. While waiting in line, we bumped into our pal, designer Nicole Miller. Her guest hadn't arrived, so we invited her to join us.
As we chatted, she shared insights on staying relevant and balancing life and work, her words as colorful and engaging as the vintage '90s travel-themed ties from my personal collection.
Inside, the atmosphere was electrifying. Every corner burst with the vibrant hues of flowers and psychedelic patterns, embodying the quintessential hippie party. Guests were adorned in iconic '60s and '70s costumes, with women twirling in floral dresses and men sporting bell-bottoms and tie-dye. Adding to the spirit, hot, shirtless bartenders in flowered speedos served Cointreau Margaritas and generously poured Botanist Gin, keeping the energy high and the party going
James Laforce and his husband Stephen have a talent for creating immersive experiences, and this soirée was no exception. It was a reunion of old friends and colleagues, a night filled with stories, laughter, and the shared nostalgia of an era when bell-bottoms and tie-dye ruled.
As the night wrapped up, I felt enveloped in the flower power and magic only found in New York City. The "Hippie Holidays Soirée" was more than just a party; it was a journey back in time, a vibrant tribute to a revolutionary era, and an unforgettable experience of color, music, and unity. I left feeling grateful for the chance to relive those times and reconnect with the free-spirited energy that continues to inspire. It was a testament to the enduring spirit of love and unity, reminding us that the iconic '60s era still echoes in our hearts today.
From Naughty or Nice Soirees to Heartfelt Homecomings: A Joyful Holiday Season
The days following the flower power party wove together a festive tapestry of events, each contributing a unique sparkle to our holiday spirit. It all began in New York with a "Naughty or Nice" party hosted at Ascent Lounge by owners Brian and Carrie Packin. The lounge exuded glamor, and the culinary delights, including freshly made sushi by master chefs, tantalized our taste buds.
Adding to the enchantment, a trapeze artist donned a red sparkling jumpsuit and soared from the sky. The excitement reached its peak when Luann de Lesseps from "Real Housewives of New York" graced us with her presence, radiating charm in a dark green off-the-shoulder sparkling dress and diamond bangle.
Our festive journey continued with a heartwarming dinner at Bill, Fred, and James' apartment, just a stone's throw from our Chelsea home. Christmas Eve transitioned into a cozy fondue party with John and Neils, seamlessly leading to a cherished Christmas Day brunch hosted by Doug and Chris. This festive brunch featured Myriad Cellars wine by Mike Smith and marked our traditional departure on Christmas day.
In Tucson, the celebrations began on the 27th with our annual holiday party in our Tucson home, where over 50 friends and family members gathered, infusing the air with holiday cheer.
My generous brother-in-law Chris and sister Sheila, the evening's chefs, ensured that platters brimmed with delicious holiday fare. The merriment continued at Eric's brother and sister-in-law's home, where Lisa and John's desert oasis resonated with laughter and the clinking of glasses as family from across the country joined in.
At my sister Sheila's, an atmosphere of nostalgia and warmth enveloped us as we exchanged heartfelt gifts and indulged in holiday treats, taking a moment to remember those who are no longer with us.
The pinnacle of our holiday joy unfolded at our friend, three-time Tony winner Scott Pask's, magical foothills home. Scott and Will orchestrated an enchanting gathering, with each friend contributing to the evening's warmth.
The centerpiece was Scott's spectacular Christmas tree, a vision reminiscent of a Hallmark card, adorned for a grand Nutcracker performance, adding an extra layer of wonder to our week of gatherings.
These recent weeks weren't just a series of events though; they constituted a heartfelt journey through warmth, connection, and joyous celebration. They served as a poignant reminder of the beauty and love that envelop us during the holiday season.
