Exciting news for the global gays: In an interview with Axios, Grindr CEO George Arison announced that the app will soon introduce a "roam" feature.

Arison told Axios that the feature promises to be a "gayborhood in your pocket," allowing users to place their location in a different area ahead of a trip so that they can make plans with potential partners and friends.

It's the first major update to the app in its 15-year history, and it's only the latest in a growing list of planned technology updates as the developers behind the app hope to evolve to remain competitive with other hookup apps.

The roam feature will also connect users with services, including restaurants, fitness centers and health professionals, with a "Grindr seal of approval."

"Do you want to find a LGBTQ-friendly GP or therapist? Grindr will do that for you," Arison explained."We're working to meet our users where they are."

Grindr boasts around 13 million monthly active users worldwide, with a market capitalization of around $1.8 billion.

"We are more likely to build curated experiences for our users in the top LGBTQ cities than to create our own accommodation service," Arison said. Additionally, Arison anticipates that artificial intelligence will play a big role in how everyone dates. "And our users will decide exactly how," he said. "We need to lead them there, through the opportunity to participate in piloting features, and giving users a clear choice of whether they want to use this technology."
