Cher made a very special appearance at The Abbey in West Hollywood, California, to celebrate the bar's new owner Tristan Schukraft, and share some praise for the LGBTQ community in honor of Pride Month.
As reported by Variety, Cher recounts that she was just 9 year's old when she met two gay men that changed her life.
"I walked into my house and there were these two guys there and they started talking to my mom and mom's best friend. I was thinking, 'Where have they been hiding these guys?'" said the entertainment icon. "I'm 9, but I thought, 'Wait a minute... why aren't the other guys as funny as these guys?' It really was love at first sight."
And the gays have been in love with Cher since. And the "Believe" singer thanked the LGBTQ community for their longtime support of her career.
"One thing I have to say that is serious, that is from the heart, is that I've had really ups and downs in my career – I mean, really! – and you guys never left me," she said. "So thank you."
In attendance at the "Abbey Relaunch Party" included Ricky Martin, Law Roach, Jean Smart, Saweetie, Zoe Lister-Jones, Michaela Jaé Rodriguez, Karamo Brown, Lance Bass and "RuPaul's Drag Race" stars Bianco Del Rio, Courtney Act, Kerri Colby, Manila Luzon, Bruno Alcantara, and of course, all the local gays of West Hollywood, and some impromptu performances.
Schukraft, an entrepreneur and hotelier, bought The Abbey from longtime owner David Cooley.
Addressing the purchase, Schukraft shared that he was honored to continue shepherding the "world's most iconic gay bar."
He added, "I'm really honored I have the privilege of taking over."
