Filming the gay holiday romcom "Happiest Season" might not have been a happy time for its star Kristen Stewart. Appearing on "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert," Plaza, who also stars in the film, revealed that Stewart had COVID during filming.
"COVID was on our set. Kristen got sick, but we didn't know," Plaza said, adding that they began filming "Happiest Season" "right before" the pandemic hit in March and shut down a number of Hollywood productions. She went on to say that "a lot of people got sick" while filming in Pittsburgh.
"It was the last week of February, so people were starting ... to talk about coronavirus, but people were kind of laughing about it. Nobody really understood how serious it was. But I think a bunch of people on our set got sick. I didn't, thank God," Plaza said.
"Happiest Season" is about Harper (Mackenzie Davis) who is dating Abby (Stewart) and brings her home for the holidays but reveals she's not out to her family, including her conservative parents Ted (Victor Garber) and Tipper (Mary Steenburgen). Plaza plays Harper's ex-girlfriend Riley and the film also stars Alison Brie, Dan Levy and Mary Holland. "Happiest Season" became a huge hit after it debuted on Hulu last month and EDGE reported it broke records for the steamer, and the Clea Duvall directed film became Hulu's most-watched original film in its opening weekend.
