Emma Portner has unexpectedly deleted her Instagram account, The Daily Mail reports.
After Portner's spouse, actor Elliot Page ("The Umbrella Academy"), came out as trans, Portner posted being "so proud" and asking followers for "fervent support of trans life every single day." And in the days following Page's announcement, Portner posted on Instagram "I am so proud of @elliotpage. Trans, queer and non-binary people are a gift to this world.
"I also ask for patience & privacy [and] that you join me in the fervent support of trans life every single day. Elliot's existence is a gift in and of itself. Shine on sweet E. Love you so much."
Emma also left a comment Page's Instagram post, "Love you so much Elliot."
A few days later, Portner addressed questions about her own sexual orientation and gender identity, saying "my gender identity, pronouns, and sexuality are private and not up for debate. Would love for the energy in discussion over my identity to shift into addressing the climate crisis or sharing resources to support LGBTQIA2+ resiliency instead. I am so grateful for the accountability, love, and support."
While it is unclear why Portner deleted her account – Page is still actively posting on social media – there is speculation that anti-trans comments might have led to either a temporary or permanent exodus from the platform.
Page posted a selfie on Sunday, captioned with "from the bottom of my heart, thank you,' the actor wrote to followers. 'Your love and support has been the greatest gift. Stay safe. Be there for each other.
"If you are able, support @transanta and @translifeline. See you in 2021. Xoxo Elliot."
Celebrities including Jennifer Garner, Mark Ruffalo, Sir Patrick Stewart, Alyssa Milano, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and more have expressed public support for Page on social media.
