College Football's Greatest Games :: University of Oklahoma Sooners

Phil Hall READ TIME: 1 MIN.

Fans of the Sooners, the University of Oklahoma football team, will enjoy this collection of five games played during the peak years of Barry Switzer's coaching efforts.

Featured here are the 1976 Orange Bowl, when the Sooners beat Michigan by 14-6; the 1986 Orange Bowl, with a 25-10 trouncing of Penn State; the 1987 Orange Bowl, with a 42-8 wipeout of Arkansas; the 1987 "Red River Rivalry" with the Sooners beating Texas 44-9, and the "Game of the Century II" with the Sooners beating Nebraska 17-7.

Arguably the most interesting games of the set are the 1976 Orange Bowl and the battle with Nebraska, if only because the teams in each game were evenly matched and it was never entirely certain if the Sooners could pull off their victory. The other games are amusing for football fans, although they become somewhat stale when it is obvious the Sooners were in control and had no plans to relinquish the game.

Outside of Sooner addicts and die-hard college football fanatics, it is difficult to determine who would want to sit through these old games. But for those with a loyalty to the crimson and cream, this DVD is a must-have.
