HBO's "Big Love"

After the last season of Big Love ended, fans had turned to the weird new HBO vampire drama, "True Blood," to get their fill of quirky drama. Now that we're done with the bayou, it's time to move back to Utah for a brand new season of this intriguing series.

Polyamory, Polygamy and compounds abound in the first three episodes of this, what looks to be, crazy season. The compound has been raided and second sister-wife Nicki's (Chloe Sevigny) father is now sitting in jail on charges of raping young Mormon girls. While he festers and the compounders attempt to dismantle the case, Nicki has taken a job as a temp in the DA's office where the case is ongoing. While she's not terribly sneaky, these scenes provide some much-needed intensity to the series while poor Nicki attempts to deal with the pressures of work, maintaining secrecy in the job, and dealing with her father's public trial.

Back at home, first sister-wife Barb (Jeanne Tripplehorn) may be having medical issues that leads her to want Bill (Bill Paxton) to take a fourth wife. Bill, in turn, leads to Ana, who the entire family starts dating. Ana was originally brought into the mix by third sister-wife Margene (Gennifer Goodwin), but only time will tell of Ana is meant to be.

At the office, Bill and his business partner are trying to woo a new client: a small Native American reservation wishes to develop a casino. With their finances on the brink, Bill must make this deal work by using his polygamy to his advantage.

Throughout the season, we get a glimpse into the lives of the other members of the compound members who are all related to Bill and his wives in some way. "Big Love" successfully presents both the good and the bad of the Mormon multiple wives situation.

Big Love premieres on Sunday, January 18 at 9pm.
