Outside The Box, Boston's premier performing arts festival is set to return to the Boston Common on July 13-17, 2016. Marking the third installment of the popular artistic celebration, OTB16, generously sponsored by Capital One, will showcase local, national and international performances across all arts genres including music, theatre, dance, spectacle arts, magic, and arts education.

OTB16 is pleased to announce that two award-winning, platinum-selling artists are in the festival lineup. As part of "Throwback Thursday," Smash Mouth will headline July 14, playing such hits as "Walkin' on the Sun" and "All-Star." Taking the Capital One Stage Friday night, July 15, will be Daughtry, the rock band formed and fronted by namesake Chris Daughtry. Daughtry's hits include "Home," "Feels Like Tonight," and "It's Not Over." More headlining acts will be announced in the coming weeks.

In addition to a robust performing arts schedule, this year's festival will launch OTB Interactive, a celebration of Boston's entrepreneurial and creative spirit. Special events, dedicated to the innovation-minded community, will be held on the Common including an Innovation Village and OTB Interactive Awards. Other OTBI events will be held off the Boston Common include a speaker summit and networking events. Along with Capital One, OTBI, is being co-sponsored by General Electric, WeWork, and the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce and will cater to emerging startups as well as the region's largest companies.

The five-day arts, culture and innovation event is the vision of Boston-based philanthropist and arts enthusiast Ted Cutler, who believes in the power of creative thinking as a means to making the community a better place.

"Since starting Outside the Box, my hope continues to be that we can inspire people of all ages, backgrounds and cultures with our broad range of offerings ," said Cutler. "By introducing an innovation section to Outside the Box this year, we're bringing together all of what makes our city great in one event."

"Outside the Box shows us how performing arts can bring a community together, breaking down barriers and inspiring people of all ages and backgrounds," said Boston Mayor Martin J. Walsh. "Outside the Box will provide Boston's residents and visitors with opportunities to enjoy our City's rich culture, while also showcasing Boston's thriving startup scene, providing another resource for entrepreneurs in Boston. Programs like Outside the Box are a cornerstone of our commitment to creating an inclusive, innovative cultural environment."

The 2016 event will be again curated by Artistic Director Georgia Lyman, a Boston-based actress and producer who worked with Outside the Box in 2013 and 2015. In addition to showcasing performances across all artistic genres, Lyman is working to ensure the festival showcases both local and national talent as well as international performers by working with agencies and presenters from around the world.

"We make it our mission to offer something for everyone," said Lyman. "While you'll see well-known national headlining musical acts, the bulk of the programming is locally based performers from all genres. The goal is for the people of Boston to recognize themselves on our stages."

OTB16 is partnering with the Boston Globe, Bostinno, WXRV The River and WERS as media sponsors for the event.

The full performance schedule will be announced over the next two months. For more information, visit www.OTBBoston.com or follow Outside the Box on Facebook, @otbBoston on Twitter or @otbboston on Instagram.
