Watch: UK Neo-Nazi Leaves White Supremacist Movement, Comes Out as Gay
READ TIME: 1 MIN.
A British Neo-Nazi renounced his affiliation with the white supremacist movement and came out as gay in an interview with the U.K.'s Channel 4.
After 40 years as an active member of the fascist National Front political party, Kevin Wilshaw announced he's abandoned the group and discussed his sexuality with the network.
Wilshaw, who said he is of Jewish heritage, said while being a closeted gay man in the group, he was subjected to abuse by members who suspected he was gay.
"It's a terribly selfish thing to say, but it's true," he told Channel 4. "I saw people being abused, shouted at, spat at in the street -- it's not until it's directed at you that you suddenly realize that what you're doing is wrong."
He later added there are "members leading National Front who are overtly gay. And nobody could see the contradiction of it that you have an overtly gay person leading a homophobic organization."
Whilshaw claims he wants to "do some damage" to the "people who are propagating this kind of rubbish." He added he wants to "show what it's like for those who are living a lie and be on the receiving end of this type of propaganda, I want to hurt them."
