Watch: Perez Hilton Says 50% of Boys Who Take Dance Class are Gay, Hopes Son is Straight
READ TIME: 2 MIN.
Clarifying comments he made on his podcast last week, celebrity blogger Perez Hilton shared a video in which he claimed "50 percent or more" of "little boys who take dance class end up being gay" and that he hopes his 5-year-old son is straight.
In his video called "I Would Prefer if My Son Was Not Gay," Hilton, 40, says he's not going to sign up his son Mario for dance class.
"I'm not going to put a number on it, but I would say a good amount - maybe like 50 percent or more - of little boys who take dance class end up being gay," Hilton, who is gay, said in the clip, which was posted on his website Sunday. "I don't think that's a homophobic thing to say. Just like I don't think it's a homophobic thing to say that a disproportionate amount of male singer/actor/dancers on Broadway are gay. There are more gay men drawn to that profession. That's not homophobic, that's just a fact."
His new video follows comments he made on his podcast last week. Hilton said he'd prefer his son to grow up straight because life will be "easier" for him - and that's why he won't be signing up Mario for dance class. In his new clip, Hilton reiterated those sentiments.
"Ultimately, every decision I make for my son is what I think is best for his future. I don't want to do anything that could potentially hurt him," Hilton said. He later added that even though be believes he was born gay, he still doesn't think his son should take dance class because it "might help make your son gay."
Nevertheless, the blogger said he's still let his son take dance lessons if that's what he really wanted.
"And if he really wanted to take dance class - which he hasn't expressed that - if he begged and pleaded, if I saw that would make him truly happy, I would do that," Hilton, a father of two, said.
At the start of his video, Hilton said that no matter his sexual orientation or gender identity, he'd support and love Mario.
"If my son turns out to be gay, or if he turns out to be gay but not able to articulate that yet because he's only 5, I will love my son unconditionally and support him," he said. "If my son is transgender, I will love him and support him unconditionally."
