Watch: Madonna Debuts New Music with Surprise Performance at Met Gala
READ TIME: 1 MIN.
Leave it to Madonna to steal the show at the star-studded Met Gala.
The queen of pop offered a surprise performance at the A-list event, where A-listers like Kim Kardashian West, Katy Perry, Sarah Jessica Parker, Rita Ora, Darren Criss, George and Amal Clooney, and several more were in attendance. This year's Met Gala theme was "Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination," and the Material Girl didn't shy away from the religious references.
As Vogue writes, Madonna "wowed earlier in the evening on the red carpet in a regal black Jean Paul Gaultier gown which she paired with a black net veil over her face that was held in place by jeweled crosses and rosaries. Her blonde hair was parted down the center and two braids flanked her face."
After dinner, the singer had a "dramatic wardrobe change" and donned a "monastic cloak, she descended the stairs of the Great Hall and made her grand entrance on stage to the tolls of church bells," Vogue notes.
For her performance, Madonna opened with "Like a Prayer" then segued into a cover of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah."
As fans online note, she also debuted new material - a song possibly called "Magic" or "Beautiful Game."
Check out clips of her performance below.
