Watch: Eminem Releases Music Video for Song with Gay Slur
READ TIME: 1 MIN.
Despite a social media backlash, Eminem decided to release a music video for his new song "Fall," in which he says a gay slur.
The track comes from the rapper's surprise 10th album "Kamikaze." "Fall" got immediate blowback due to the fact Eminem uses the word "faggot" when taking aim at rapper Tyler, the Creator. In the video for the song, Eminem, 45, is seen getting a number of notifications about his poorly reviewed 9th album "Revival." Confused, he gets out of his car and decides to calm down by getting fresh air. Despite his attempt to relax, he's then chased down by a creepy shadow man.
"Fall" was not only hit with backlash from fans and Twitter users but also Imagine Dragons' singer Dan Reynolds. The musician, who has been an ally and advocate for LGBTQ youth, called out the rapper and the song on Twitter.
Pitchfork notes indie singer Bon Iver, who is featured on the controversial song, also spoke out against Eminem.
"Was not in the studio for the Eminem track... came from a session with BJ Burton and Mike Will. Not a fan of the message, it's tired. Asked them to change the track, wouldn't do it. Thanks for listening to BRM," he tweeted.
