READ TIME: 1 MIN.

"Game of Thrones" star Kit Harington spoke with Variety this week to discuss his new film "The Death and Life of John F. Donovan," directed by out filmmaker Xavier Dolan, who also spoke with the publication along costar Thandie Newton. The conversation eventually turned to gay representation in mainstream movies and Harington slammed Marvel Studios for not having yet cast an openly gay super hero.

"There's a big problem with masculinity and homosexuality that they can't somehow go hand in hand," he said. "That we can't have someone in a Marvel movie who's gay in real life and plays some super hero. I mean, when is that going to happen?"

Dolan, who was part of the interview, also commented.

"And then you cast gay characters but you still hear things like, 'Well, he's too gay," he said before Newton interjected.

"If you look at the sports industry - the few people that have stepped into their true selves in an uncompromising way," the "Westward" star said. "In 10 years time, the effect that it will have. It is changing, but we have to get behind those changes and keep pushing it. That's the thing."

Dolan added how technology has helped people come out as queer over the last few years but went on to say he's unsure if that will impact the film industry.

"Does that mean that the industry has changed in the way that it regards this talent?" he asked

"Well it has to be forced. That's how revolutions happen," Newton said.
