Listen: Kevin Hart Apologizes to LGBTQ Community 'Once Again'
READ TIME: 2 MIN.
During the Monday episode of his SiriusXM radio show "Straight from the Hart," Kevin Hart apologized to the LGBTQ community for his anti-gay tweets and standup, E! News reports.
"I will say this, and I want to make this very clear. And I'm going to say it just in case you guys try to take this shit and chop it up, I will rebuttal with this fucking piece right here!" he said. "Once again, Kevin Hart apologizes for his remarks that hurt members of the LGBTQ community. I apologize."
His apology comes after the comedian's Oscars hosting controversy. Last month, it was announced he'd be hosting the 91st Academy Awards ceremony next month. Shortly after the announcement, a backlash ensued due to anti-gay tweets and jokes he made in the past. In an Instagram video, Hart refused to apologize, claiming the Academy threatened to revoke his hosting duties unless he apologized even though he says he has apologized for his comments several times already. (That has been debated, which you can read more about by clicking here.)
Hart eventually did apologize to the LGBTQ community while announcing he was stepping down as host.
"I have made the choice to step down from hosting this year's Oscar's....this is because I do not want to be a distraction on a night that should be celebrated by so many amazing talented artists. I sincerely apologize to the LGBTQ community for my insensitive words from my past," he tweeted. "I'm sorry that I hurt people.. I am evolving and want to continue to do so. My goal is to bring people together not tear us apart. Much love & appreciation to the Academy. I hope we can meet again."
Last week, he appeared on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" where he and the out talkshow host discussed the debacle. There, Hart again apologized for his comments but still defended himself, saying he was done apologizing and told Ellen he behaved the way he did because he felt he was under attack.
"This wasn't an accident. This wasn't a coincidence. It wasn't a coincidence that the day after I received the job, tweets somehow manifested from 2008," Hart saidn. "To go back through 40,000 tweets to get back to 2008 that's an attack, that's a malicious attack on my character, that's an attack to end me, that's not an attack to just stop the Oscars."
